Superbowl XLVI in Indy!

It’s Wednesday morning in Indy and the city is in the middle of Super Bowl week. Many questioned the success of a Super Bowl in a Midwest city once called Nap Town. Indy is proving the critics wrong as this is turning out to be a record setting Super Bowl in every category. According to the NFL, Super Bowl played in Arizona was the record setter in terms of people converging on the city. This is gauged by the NFL Experience and paid attendance. Arizona had 200,000 for the entire week. So far, the Indy crowd has been over 150,000 and we haven’t even hit the weekend yet. It’s a sure bet that Indy will break all records. The excitement and feeling in the air is magic. The media is extremely positive and upbeat.

While this may be a surprise to some, it certainly isn’t to us. We feel this magic when we hold our IMIS event each year. For those who experience downtown Indy, it’s understood why this city is very special when it comes to large events. It’s a combination of the great restaurants, bars, and hotels all within walking distance of a first class convention center, football stadium, and basketball field house. More importantly, it’s the attitude of the city and Hoosier Hospitality. Our state and city knew what it was doing over the past 30 years as it transformed Nap Town into one of the premier event cities in the Nation. Indy is no stranger to large events. After all, the Indy 500 is still the largest single day sporting event in the world and is now 100 years old. All of us at IMIS are very proud to be a part of Indy and fortunate to hold our event here.

As several hundred thousand visitors converge on Indy and experience this very special city, they say “Wow, how awesome is this.” We say “We knew that.”

Indy is Racing! And now an NFL Super Bowl destination.

Sad Day in Racing

On behalf of myself and the entire C&R staff, we would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the family of Dan Wheldon. For all that knew Dan, he was a very happy and caring human being. He will be remembered as not only a great race driver, but a fun-loving individual that created joy by his presence. He was truly a racing legend that will be missed by racers and fans alike.

Sadly, another tragedy hit the racing world Sunday with the death of Rick Huseman. Rick and his brother Jeff were killed in a plane crash in southern Ca. Rick Huseman was a very talented Off Road racer out of Ca. He was a winning driver in the Lucas Oil Off Road Series as well as the TORC Series.
Our racing world is extremely competitive from every facet of the industry. It’s amazing how the fraternity pulls together in times like these. It’s a very close knit world of individuals that will compete ruthlessly on the track and go out of the way to fight for their fellow racers in time of need. The character of our sport is like none other.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of Dan Wheldon and Rick Huseman.

Weekend update at Chicagoland!

The C&R Racing and IMIS road show stopped at Chicagoland Speedway last weekend for the USAC-TORC Series race and the Geico 400 NASCAR weekend. We would like to congratulate Ricky Johnson and the Menzies Racing Team for the spectacular wins in the Pro 4 event both Wednesday and Thursday. As I tell everyone, this is the most awesome racing on the planet. Super competitive and exciting.

It was great to see the NASCAR guys that turned up at the TORC race Thursday night. The stands were full and the show was live on Speed channel. Juan Pablo Montoya, Austin Dillon, Todd Bodine, and Tony Stewart all made their way to the “Dirt Road Course” with jumps and holes. Two of our lovely and vivacious girls from the IMIS office, Tracy Stange and Jamie Harding Hancook, joined my beautiful wife Debbie and gave out a little MoJo on Ricky Johnson, Austin Dillon, and Tony as all 3 won their respective races. The girls are pretty sure that the fact all 3 drivers hung out with them in the IMIS bus and/or the Traxxas hospitality tent is the reason they won. I think they’re right.

It was a great week of racing and encouraging to see the crowds show up at both events. Even with the rain delay, the NASCAR Sprint Cup race had a very respectable crowd.
