Phoenix, AZ – USAC Veteran Brian Tyler, Team Six R Racing (Team 6R) #21, took to the track on Saturday afternoon at Phoenix International Raceway. After only making about 18 laps in practice Brian clinched pole position for the Copper World Classic, the season opener and inaugural race in what has become the new generation Silver Crown Series. This is Brian’s third pole in the USAC Silver Crown Series.
“Each lap the car just got better, we only ran about 18 laps in practice. The car qualified a little tight and I’m still trying to find that line, I’m trying to find the edge but don’t want to go over that limit.” Brian states on his qualifying run, “Chris (Chris Paulsen) and the guys put a good safe car together. We ran our practice laps and just got better now we are sitting on the pole.”
“We have a lot experience in putting cars together in all forms of racing F-1, IndyCar, NASCAR you name it.” States Chris Paulsen, President and Owner C&R Racing, Inc. “When we designed the car we didn’t just want to build a racecar, this was a serious undertaking. When we announced this in September we wanted to take the time to build and design a proper car, we didn’t even cut the first piece of material for our prototype until October. We then tested, made a lot of changes and then built four cars total – that’s about a car a week. A tough effort and a lot of overnighters that has paid off today, look at this we are on the pole for the Copper World Classic a premier event in the USAC Silver Crown Series.”
Four of the twelve in this year’s Copper World Classic are a C&R chassis. C&R Racing announced the commitment to build the new generation Silver Crown Car in September 2005. The original commitment was to build four new cars this weekend will show a lot towards future orders. Brian Tyler qualified on the pole while the other C&R cars qualified fifth, sixth and tenth.
Chris states, “This weekend is extremely critical, you can feel the energy in this place. The first race will really tell us a lot. We are in the process of building two more and are expected to build four more by Homestead.”
Team Six R Racing, is comprised of several local Indianapolis Business owners who have a long history of involvement in auto racing. Team Six R was founded in 1988 with the sole mission to run just six Thursday Night ESPN Thunder USAC Midget races at Indianapolis Raceway Park. The team hired race driver Jim Keeker and then purchased a used USAC midget that had a history of winning, having won four of its last six races and was number 6R. While the intent was to run just the six IRP races and then sell the car, it was decided to keep the car number and name the team “Team 6R Racing”. The one thing that was never discussed was what winning might do to the initial plan of selling the car. Yes, the 6R midget won its first and second race it entered, and you can’t stop success. Now some 16 seasons later, Team Six R is still actively racing. The two-car team with drivers Brian Tyler and Dave Steele will run the 2006 USAC Silver Crown Series with a C&R Racing Silver Crown chassis.
