Phoenix, AZ – Four of the twelve in this year’s Copper World Classic are a C&R chassis. C&R Racing announced the commitment to build the new generation Silver Crown Car in September 2005. The original commitment was to build four new cars this weekend shows a lot towards future orders. Brian Tyler in the number 21 Kroger-Tide/Bounty-Pringles qualified on the pole and Dave Steele in the number 1 Print Express clinched the victory at this year’s Copper World Classic, both cars are owned by Team Six R Racing (Team 6R).
Dave Steele on clinching his second victory of the day, “It’s been good to me (referencing his USAC Midget and USAC Silver Crown wins at Phoenix International Raceway). Anytime you win its good, it’s a special champ car race and I wanted to win this for my crew. They spent all nighters putting this racecar together they gave 100%, they put a lot into it.” Dave continues, “Chris Paulsen really (President and Owner C&R Racing and chassis constructor for the new generation Silver Crown car) built a nice racecar, he has smart engineers working on that car. We qualified tight and I ran about as good as I could run that tight. Not sure how fast you can get there is more left and I know we can go faster not sure how much but it will go faster.”
Bruce Ashmore, Engineer C&R Racing, “We worked very hard, very long hours we only took Christmas day off but it was all worth it. I’ve had the most fun in years making this racecar. Chris Paulsen and I have always been on the same wave and this really proved it. I love working with these drivers they are so brave, talented and knowledgeable, they really know how to express what the car is doing.”
After clinching the pole Brian Tyler finished in third place. “Third isn’t bad, naturally you want to win I’m a racer. It’s a nice racecar we just need to find the right package for my driving style. We’ll tire test in Homestead and that will give me more time.” Brian states, “It’s a brand new car and overall I’m very impressed it’s a good stable racecar.
Chris Paulsen, “We are extremely excited how well our racecar worked right out of the box. Dave Steele is a great driver and that’s what you need to make a great racecar. Our guys at the shop worked very hard this car was basically a rack of tubing that they built from the ground up. I think this was a smooth event and USAC should be happy with the initial outcome of the design.”
Team Six R Racing, is comprised of several local Indianapolis Business owners who have a long history of involvement in auto racing. Team Six R was founded in 1988 with the sole mission to run just six Thursday Night ESPN Thunder USAC Midget races at Indianapolis Raceway Park. The team hired race driver Jim Keeker and then purchased a used USAC midget that had a history of winning, having won four of its last six races and was number 6R. While the intent was to run just the six IRP races and then sell the car, it was decided to keep the car number and name the team “Team 6R Racing”. The one thing that was never discussed was what winning might do to the initial plan of selling the car. Yes, the 6R midget won its first and second race it entered, and you can’t stop success. Now some 16 seasons later, Team Six R is still actively racing. The two-car team with drivers Brian Tyler and Dave Steele will run the 2006 USAC Silver Crown Series with a C&R Racing Silver Crown chassis.
