Water Circulator Instructions

The C&R “GEN II” cool down unit is a design evolving from our original C&R cool down circulator.  We have enhanced the features of the original unit and added new features based on our knowledge and with input from the teams.  The end result is a unit that works faster, is easier on the cooling system components, engine, and much more versatile.  The “GEN II” has an insulated 43-gallon reservoir, high efficiency 2-row radiator, a 6800 cfm fan, and a shuttle valve designed and built by C&R that allows the mechanic to choose how he wants to cool his racecar.  The “GEN II” allows the hot engine to be cooled at a controlled rate by initially circulating only through the radiator and using the fan.  This will bring the temperature from 200 degrees to 120 degrees in approx. 5 minutes (depending on ambient temperature).  At this point the engine and radiator can be safely iced down by switching the circulator control valve to the “TANK” position.  This procedure prevents thermal shock to the cooling system, which is the major culprit in radiator failure.  It also prevents thermal shock to the engine block and heads.

By adding the optional heater package the “GEN II” can also be utilized as an engine heater by circulating hot water through the system.

The “GEN II” is wired as a 220v system, which reduces the load on the generator and reduces the amp draw by half over our old unit.

Filling Unit
  1. Fill unit through large tank o-ringed cover.  Fill level 1-1/2” from top.

  2. When full, connect hoses together, and then connect the power.

  3. Place valve in “RAD/TANK” position and turn pump on.  This will fill the radiator.  It will take about 30 seconds to prime, pump and fill radiator.

  4. Repeat steps #1-#3 until consistent level in tank is achieved.  Minimum operating level is 1-1/2” from top of tank.
